"Widen the Circle Fellowship"

Nicole Nocon has been invited to become a "Widen the Circle Fellow". The "Widen the Circle Fellowship," established by the Obermayer Foundation, emerged against the backdrop of increasing societal polarization, antisemitism, racism, and right-wing extremist tendencies; it builds upon the long-standing legacy of remembrance work fostered by the Obermayer Awards in Germany.
The fellowship program—particularly the "Berlin Fellowship"—brings together activists, historians, educators, and cultural practitioners from the USA and Germany who focus on cultures of remembrance, historical injustice, and democratic civic education.
Thematically, the program centers on dialogue regarding Holocaust remembrance, local historical research, combating prejudice, and developing collaborative projects, with the aim of leveraging historical reckoning as a tool to counter contemporary hatred and social exclusion. From June 3 to June 11, 2026, participants in the current program gathered in Berlin to engage in an exchange regarding remembrance work. The fellows will continue to meet regularly online to exchange ideas until the spring of 2027.
