BVB Borussia Dortmund
joins The Butterfly Project

The football club Borussia Dortmund is participating in the „Butterfly Project“, an international memorial initiative dedicated to the Jewish children murdered during the Holocaust. The project aims to take a stand against forgetting by creating and displaying decorative butterflies.

In the summer of 2023, players and officials from the club traveled to San Diego, USA, to join local youths and the project’s co-founder, Cheryl Rattner-Price, in painting ceramic butterflies in memory of the children and adolescents who fell victim to the Holocaust. To support this effort, the initiative generationE researched the biographies of young Holocaust victims from Dortmund and the surrounding region.

BVB actively supports educational and commemorative work, with a particular focus on educating young people about the crimes committed during the Nazi era. Through workshops, exhibitions, and creative activities, history is brought to life in a vivid and engaging manner. 

By participating in the Butterfly Project, Borussia Dortmund clearly demonstrates its firm stance against antisemitism and discrimination. At the same time, the club sends a powerful message of tolerance, diversity, and respect. 

In doing so, BVB seamlessly combines its commitment to sport with its sense of social responsibility. The ceramic butterflies created for the Butterfly Project are now on display in a prominent location at the BVB Youth Performance Center in Dortmund-Brackel.
